Eddie Hugh Drawdy, Jr.

VARNVILLE - Mr. Eddie Hugh Drawdy Jr. of Lowndes Lake Road near Varnville, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his residence, after an extended illness.

Mr. Drawdy was born October 30, 1964 in Hampton county, a son of Mary Louise Cook Drawdy and the late Eddie Hugh Drawdy Sr.  He was a Gang Saw Operator with Elliott Sawmill in Estill for 28 years, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially watching Nascar Racing.

Surviving besides his mother of Hampton are:  His wife: Evelyn Charlene Jarrell Drawdy of Varnville; Son: Eddie Hugh Drawdy III of Estill; Daughters: Tina and husband Steven Lang of Ridgeland, Casie and husband Alan Brunson of Nixville, and Rachel and husband Bryce Rogers of Estill; Brother: David Drawdy and wife Donna of Hampton; Sisters: Connie and husband Wayne Nettles of Hampton, Gail and husband Scott Lee of Estill, Kathy and husband David Ginn of Estill, and Nancy Walters of Hampton.  There are 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Paul Creason, with burial following in the Thames Cemetery.

Homer Earl Smith, H. E.

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. - Homer Earl Smith, H. E., passed away peacefully on June 2nd, 2016 at 78 years of age in Goodyear, Arizona.

Homer was born in Furman, South Carolina on May 31st, 1938 to Marjorie Brown Smith and Earl Smith.  Homer was the oldest of 11 children. Homer left high school to enlist in the Army and helped to support his family and younger siblings.  He said “I’m a good man and they needed a few good men.”  He was a loving supportive family man and was always so proud of his mother and siblings.  His surviving siblings include: Jerry Smith and his wife Lee Ann of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Madeline Griffin of Pensacola, Florida, Dorothy Wally and her husband Sherryl of Branchville, South Carolina, Margie Sherrod of Atlanta, Georgia, Shirley Hammond of Dandridge, Tennessee, Marilyn Cooke of Barnwell, South Carolina and Marsha Floyd Beasley and her husband Lamar of Barnwell, South Carolina.  He was preceded in death by his sister Nell Monteleone, his brother Francis Marion Smith, and one grandson Max Nelson Smith.

While stationed in Germany, Homer met and married Helga Peterman Trinka from 1966 to 1977.  They had two sons, Michael Smith and Steve Edward Smith, who both followed in their father’s footsteps by serving in the military.  Homer had five grandchildren:  Connor Michael Smith, Anthony Christopher Miller, and Tristan Hans Smith from his son Michael and Max Nelson Smith and Josie Marie Smith from his son Steve.   He also has two daughter-in-laws, Mindy Smith and Angela Smith.

Homer had a distinguished career lasting for 29 years in the Army.  He served his country proudly in Korea and the Vietnam War.   He was stationed around the world but spent the majority of his career in Germany.  Assignments included Platoon Sergeant in the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam where he earned a bronze star and Combat Infantry Badge, Company First Sergeant in the 1st Infantry Division and 4th Infantry Division, Armor Battalion Sergeant Major in the 8th Infantry Division, and Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Army Reserves and National Guard in North Carolina.  He retired as a Sergeant Major in 1984.  After his retirement, he enjoyed socializing with other vets at the VFW.

Everyone around Homer knew he loved his family and his friends. We would like to thank everyone for their friendship, love, support, and prayers. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10th at 2:00 PM in the Nixville Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Paul Creason, with burial and reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. (alz.org)

Edward Henry Robinson

Mr. Edward Henry Robinson, son of the late Mr. Percy Robinson and Mrs. Mae Williams Robinson, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 while at PruittHealth-Walterboro, South Carolina.  He was born August 17, 1932 in Walterboro, South Carolina. 

Mr. Robinson, at an early age, joined Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Islandton, South Carolina under the pastorate of the late Reverend Charlie Anderson.  He attended faithfully until, as a result of declining health, he was no longer able to.   He was a graduate of Ruffin High School, Ruffin, South Carolina.  He enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict.  Upon completion of service, Mr. Edward Robinson was honorably discharged.

He was an avid gardener who loved planting vegetables which he generously gave to family, friends, and neighbors.  His joy was telling jokes. He loved to see others laugh.

Preceding him in death are two siblings, Mrs. Owilender Robinson McQuire and Mr. Charles Robinson.

To cherish his memories and mourn his home going are:  His son, Mr. Gregg (Patty) Robinson of Hampton, South Carolina; (1) Grandson, Mr. Edvin Greshad Robinson of Varnville, South Carolina; His siblings:  Ms. Mary Ellen Capers of the home; Ms.  Gennett R. Youmans of Hampton, South Carolina, Ms. Oris Buckner of Islandton, South Carolina, Mrs. Doris (Harry) Mole of Islandton, South Carolina, Mrs. Margie (Deacon James) Fennell of Yemassee, South Carolina, Mrs. Ruthie Mae (Rossie Lee) Williams of Hampton, South Carolina, and Mrs. Barbara (Isaiah) Doctor of Varnville, South Carolina; (1) Sister-in-law, Ms. Ruth Robinson of Islandton, South Carolina; Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 12 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Cypress Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Islandton, with burial in the Varn Cemetery in Islandton.

Washington’s Funeral Home of Hampton was in charge of the arrangements.
