Deacon Charlie A. Orr was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Hampton County, SC. He was the eldest son of the late Joe and Jessie Gordon Orr. This union was blessed with seven children: six boys and one girl.
Charlie was educated in Hampton County Public Schools in Hampton, SC. He was raised working on a farm and learned the value of hard work. On Jun. 9, 1951, he was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Lucille Drayton. God blessed this union with three daughters, Barbara, Mary Ann, and Marilyn. Charlie and Lucille were married for 65 wonderful years.
For 42 years, Charlie, along with his brother, George, and their younger brothers, continued their logging business, which was started by their father, Joe Orr. As a result of their vision, the business grew and became C & G Orr Logging, Inc.
Charlie enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and working in his garden. He loved his church and was the Chairman of the Deacon Board for 30 years. However, more than anything, Charlie loved and enjoyed his family. He loved it when his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were at Nana and Papa’s house Sundays after church for the family’s Sunday dinner. He would spend those Sundays sharing funny stories with his family. He loved to laugh and make others laugh.
His parents, sister, four brothers, and granddaughter, preceded him in death. Charlie entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Apr. 19, 2017 at his home on Orr Hill.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memories: a wife, Lucille Drayton Orr; three daughters, Barbara Orr-Boles (James), Varnville, SC, Mary Ann Jackson, Hampton, SC, and Marilyn Orr-Young, Varnville, SC; one brother, Samuel (Coretta) Orr, Hampton, SC; three special sisters-in-law: Etta Mae Orr and  Margaret Orr, both of Hampton, SC and Anne Coast, Savannah, GA; five grandchildren: Rev.
