Joyce Kathleen Norton DeLoach, 84, widow of John Edwards DeLoach, passed peacefully into her eternal heavenly home on Wednesday, Jul. 5, 2017. She was born on February 26, 1933, in her Estill childhood home, which her mother described as “A very cold day.” She was the middle child of Carl & Kathleen Norton and sister to Carl M. Norton, Jr., June N. Chavers, Daniel G. Norton, and Judith N. Rivers.

Following her graduation from Estill High School as Salutatorian in her class of 1950, she then graduated in three years from Winthrop College with a degree in Elementary Childhood Education. Later, on Aug. 5, she married her high school sweetheart, and the love of her life. Just weeks before her passing, she was reminding her family that she loved her husband so! Joyce and “Sonny” were married for 48 years and were blessed with two daughters: Sharon D. Mathis (Terry) and Julie D. Peeples (Van, III).

She taught elementary school (Fourth Grade) for 41 years in the Hampton and Fairfax School systems, and Patrick Henry Academy. Over the course of her teaching career, she touched the lives of many children who knew her as “Mrs. DeLoach”.

After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and eating at “Coconut’s”.  She especially enjoyed driving two of her grandchildren to and from Patrick Henry Academy every day until they could drive themselves.

She was a faithful servant of her Lord. Her church service included teaching Sunday School classes for children and adult ladies. She taught Sunday School at Hampton First Baptist for years and then at Lawtonville, including a class named after her mother, Kathleen H. Norton. She sang in the church choirs and was a member of several missionary groups during her lifetime. She was a living testimony of how a Godly woman should conduct herself. She adored her four grandchildren: Melissa, Jason, Jesse and Joye, as well as her great-grandsons: Luke and Lawson.  She loved her family with all her heart and will be missed beyond words by everyone who loved her. She is now a resident of her eternal home and is in the company of the loved ones who left before her…Most of all, she is with Jesus FOREVER!

Funeral services were held Friday, Jul. 7, 2017, in the Lawtonville Baptist Church with burial in the Hopewell Cemetery, under the direction of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton.

The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to: Lawtonville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1056, Estill, SC 29918 or to Patrick Henry Academy, 8766 Savannah Highway, Estill, SC 29918.
