Lenora McJolly
BROOKLYN, NY - Lenora McJolly was born March 18, 1946, in Hampton, South Carolina to the late Frankie Lee, Sr. and Estill Rivers. She was the eldest of her brothers and sisters; the late Isabella Crittington (Rivers), Erma Williams (Rivers) and the late Frankie Lee, Jr.
Lenora moved to Brooklyn, NY at the age of 18 after graduating from North District Training High School in Varnville, South Carolina. She married David McJolly, Jr. and they had three children: Cherie Lenora McJolly, David McJolly, III and Jasmin Mar’tel McJolly (Dix). Lenora worked for the New York Department of Housing and Urban Development for over 30 years. Upon retiring, she became a “professional traveler” visiting places such as Las Vegas, Alaska and Jerusalem. Lenora was lovingly called by many names including Mama Mac, Mama Lee, and Laudy, but the one name that everyone would use to describe her was a “Lady.” Lenora lived a life full of love and sacrifice. She was a true testament of the selflessness of Jesus Christ and one of the most giving people you will ever meet.
She was a member of The Church of the Open Door for over ten years, and upon residing in Powder Springs, GA became a member of Renewing of the Mind Worship and Training Center.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Cherie, David and Jasmin, sister Erma Williams (Rivers), daughter-in-law Deborah McJolly, son-in-law Kwame Dix, five grandchildren: Nicholas, David IV, Amare, Elijah and Kai, a special son Elijah Braddy, and special daughters Julissa Guevara and Yolanda Johnson, as well as two honorary grandchildren Juwan and Schuyler. She will be missed dearly by her longtime friends, Katherine Williams and Pattie Slaton; her in laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of extended family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her and is now permanently residing with her heavenly father.
The funeral was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at The Church of the Open Door, 201 Gold Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201, Rev. Dr. Mark V.C. Taylor, Pastor.
Arnold Lavon Dobson
HAMPTON - On Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in Kissimmee, Florida, Mr. Arnold Lavon Dobson was called from earthy toils to reward. Born December 3, 1959 in Hampton, South Carolina, he was son of Mrs. Martha Dobson and the late Pastor Evans Dobson.
At an early age, Arnold became a baptized member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina. He was a 1977 graduate of Wade Hampton High School, Varnville, South Carolina. Upon graduation, Arnold enlisted in the United States Marine, serving his country honorably. He was discharged from active duty May, 1987.
Arnold, for many years, was formerly employed by the Department of Corrections facilities located, Allendale and Columbia, South Carolina. Most recently, he was employed as a truck driver for GAF Building Materials, Inc. of Statesboro, Georgia.
He had an avid joy for motorcycle riding as well as playing and watching sports of all sorts.
Preceding him in death was his father, Pastor Evans Dobson.
To mourn his departure are: His son, Andre Lavon Dobson of Hampton, South Carolina; His grandson, D’Andre Capers-Dobson of Summerville, South Carolina; His mother, Ms. Martha Dobson of Hampton, South Carolina; (2) Sisters: Toreacher Dobson of Hampton, South Carolina and Connie D. Nwabude of Atlanta, Georgia; (1) Brother, Pastor Lee E. (Vanessa) Dobson of Montverde, Florida; A close cousin, Timothy Capers of Madison, Alabama; (3) Aunts: Mrs. Corine (Earl) Capers of Varnville, South Carolina, Ms. Alene Fair of Robertsville, South Carolina, and Ms. Dorothy Clark of St. Petersburg, Florida; (1) Uncle, Mr. Andrew Jenkins of Tampa, Florida; (6) Nieces; (5) Nephews; Other relatives and caring friends, which includes a special friend, Marcella Brown of Hampton, South Carolina.
Funeral services were held 12 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church, Varnville. Burial with full Military Honors was held in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Leona Smith DeLoach
FURMAN - Mrs. Leona Smith DeLoach of Stafford Road, Furman, went to be with her Heavenly Father whom she loved and served throughout her long life, Easter Sunday March 27, 2016.
Mrs. DeLoach was born July 1, 1926, in Effingham County, Georgia. She was married to the late Pringle Edwin DeLoach for sixty-four and one-half years.
She was the daughter of the late George Leroy Smith and Nellie Morgan Smith. She is survived by a son, R. Wayne DeLoach, of the home; two sisters, Helen S. Usher, Shawnee Georgia and Geri Mallard, Savannah, Georgia, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, George Edward Smith and a sister, Laura S. Caffo.
She was a devoted and committed member of Steep Bottom Baptist Church and the oldest member. She centered her life around her church and was always willing to serve. She served as a former Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and worker, was an active member of the Woman’s Missionary Union, and served on various committees over the years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lillie Chapter # 27 for 44 years. She served as Worthy Matron from 1997-1998 and 2000-2002.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 2 PM in the Hampton Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Albert Tuten and Rev. Paul Creason. Burial was in the Stafford Cemetery near Furman.

Brenda Brown
PINELAND - Funeral service for Brenda Brown of Pineland, SC was held 12 noon, Wednesday, March 23th, Second Thankful Baptist Church, Pineland, South Carolina with burial in in the First Pine Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery, Pineland, SC.
Brenda Lorraine Warren-Brown was the sixth child born to Mr. Eddie and Evelyn (Bolden) Warren, on November 16, 1962 in Jasper County, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Eddie Warren, Jr.
At an early age, she joined First Pine Savannah Baptist Church. For the past ten years, Brenda has been an active member of Praise Tabernacle Full Gospel Church, Scotia, SC under the leadership of Apostle Melvin L. Badger. She served as an usher, until her health began to fail.
Brenda was the proud mother of (4) children: Ernest (Octavious) Warren, Greenville, NC, Antonio and Sadasha Warren of the home. On July 26, 1997, Brenda was happily wedded to Marion Brown. To this union, (1) child was born, Dineshia Brown.
In addition to her accomplishments, she was a high school graduate of Ridgeland High School, Class of 1982. Brenda has held numerous jobs; however, her last two places of employment were the former Gator’s Restaurant, Estill, SC and Waffle House, Point South, SC.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Elder Marion Brown; her four children; Three sisters, Beulah Jones, Jacksonville, FL, Mary (Chester) Newsome, Greenville, NC, Thomasina (Johnnie) Gordon, Varnville, SC; One brother, Freddie (Mary) Warren, Pineland, SC; One sister-in-law, Hattie Warren, Estill, SC; One aunt, Lillie Rose (Joseph) Bowman; One uncle, John H. (Julia) Bolden, all of Pineland, SC; Several brothers and sisters-in-law; A loving church family; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Marjorie Bennett
HAMPTON - Mrs. Marjorie Bennett, of Jackson Avenue in Hampton, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Beaufort, a daughter of Mary Lou Mosley Bennett and the late Percy Tyson Bennett. She was the owner and operator of Marjorie’s Cards & Gifts in Hampton, and a former Miss Hampton. Mrs. Bennett cherished her granddaughters, loved beach music and the beach, especially blue crabs. She was a devoted wife for 47 years and a loving mom.
Surviving besides her Mother of Hampton are: Sons: William Tyson Bennett and wife Lauren of Waxhaw, NC, and Timothy Cape Bennett and wife Michele of Iron Station, NC; Daughter-in-law: Cynthia Bennett of Easley; and Grandchildren: Brittany, Katelynn, Savannah, Gracie, Emily, Mary Caroline, and Sarah. She was predeceased by: Husband: William “Bill” Bennett, Father: Percy Tyson Bennett, and Son: Anthony Lee Bennett.
Funeral services were held 2 PM Monday, March 28, 2016 in the Hampton 1st Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Francis Mills and Rev. Terry Brown, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.

Pearl Jones Barnes
FAIRFAX - Mrs. “Mamie” Pearl Jones Barnes, of Fairfax, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at her residence, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Barnes, a daughter of the late Rev. Theron Earl Jones and Mamie Putman Jones. She and her late husband, William Forrest Barnes Jr., owned and operated Arrowhead Plantation and Nursery near Fairfax. She was a member of the Fairfax First Baptist Church.
Surviving are: Two step daughters: Charlotte Victoria Barnes of Columbia, and Ann Barnes Wilson and husband Harry Wilson of Lexington; Grandchildren: Victoria W. Boyce and husband Dr. Kyle Boyce, and Ann Forrest W. Bowers and husband Wyman Bowers. There are 6 great grandchildren. Also one sister: Virginia Jones Coon.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in the Fairfax Cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton.
The family is grateful for the loyal care given by Moses Cohen and a host of caregivers.
